Step away from the rush and experience the beauty of slow mornings, local markets, and long Italian dinners under the stars.
There’s a rhythm to life in Chianni that’s hard to find anywhere else. No traffic to rush through, no schedule pulling you from one place to the next — just olive groves catching the morning light, a village that wakes up slowly, and evenings that seem to last forever. This is what we mean when we talk about slow living: not doing less, but noticing more.
Here’s what a slower kind of day looks like when you’re staying with us at Colle di Chianni.
Slow mornings
Mornings here don’t start with an alarm — they start with light. The sun comes up over the hills behind the olive groves, and by the time you’re outside with your coffee, the village is only just stirring. There’s no rush to be anywhere. Sit on the terrace, watch the mist lift off the valley, and let the day arrive at its own pace. If you’re up early enough, a short walk through the groves before breakfast is the best way to have Chianni completely to yourself.
Local markets
Once a week, the villages nearby swap their quiet piazzas for market stalls — fresh produce, cheese, cured meats, and the kind of conversation that only happens between people who’ve known each other for decades. Peccioli holds its market every Tuesday morning, and Ponsacco follows on Wednesdays. Go early, bring a bag, and don’t be in a hurry: the best finds come from wandering, not shopping lists. It’s less a tourist activity and more a chance to see how the Valdera actually lives.
Long lunches, unhurried afternoons
In Chianni, lunch isn’t something you fit between errands — it’s the main event. A plate of pici, a glass of local wine, bread and our own olive oil, and a couple of hours with nowhere else to be. Afternoons are for whatever the heat allows: a nap in the shade, a swim, a slow drive through the countryside with the windows down. Nothing here is designed to be rushed, and that’s exactly the point.
Dinners under the stars
As the light softens, the terrace becomes the best seat in the house. Dinner outside, the last of the sun catching the hills, and — once it’s dark — more stars than you’ll have seen in a long time. There’s no light pollution out here, just the sound of cicadas and the kind of conversation that stretches long after the plates are cleared.
A day, slowed down
If you only take one thing from a stay at Colle di Chianni, let it be this: leave the itinerary lighter than you planned. Skip a museum. Linger over the coffee. Let the market visit take all morning. Tuscany’s most beautiful places will still be there tomorrow — but a slow morning in Chianni, once it’s gone, doesn’t come back.
