Chianni is a small hilltop village in the heart of the Valdera — and from here, some of Tuscany’s most beautiful places are right on your doorstep. Whether you’re staying at Colle di Chianni for a week or just a few days, these are the places we recommend most to our guests.

Volterra

Volterra is arguably the most impressive hilltop town near Chianni. Known for its Etruscan history, medieval walls, and alabaster workshops, it's a place that feels untouched by mass tourism. Walk the old town, visit the Etruscan museum, and end the afternoon at one of the terraces overlooking the Val di Cecina. About 30 minutes by car.

San Miniato

Perched on three hills between Florence and Pisa, San Miniato is famous for its white truffle festival in November — but worth visiting any time of year. The views from the Rocca (the old fortress tower) stretch across the entire Tuscan valley. About 40 minutes from Chianni.

Certaldo

The birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio, author of the Decameron. The upper town (Certaldo Alto) is a perfectly preserved medieval village of red brick, accessible by funicular. A quiet, genuine gem. About 45 minutes by car.

The Valdera countryside

You don't always have to drive far. The countryside around Chianni itself is stunning — rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, and almost no traffic. We recommend taking the road toward Rivalto or Terricciola for a short drive or bike ride through the vineyards.

The Tuscan coast

For a day at the sea, the coast around Cecina and Castiglioncello is less than an hour away. Less crowded than the more touristy stretches, with clear water and pine forests right down to the beach.
